XINHUA | HONG KONG, May 26 (Reporter Wang Qian) – External merchandise trade statistics released on May 26 by the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government showed that Hong Kong's total export value of goods increased by 11.9% year-on-year in the first four months of 2025, while the value of imports of goods rose by 11.4% compared to the same period last year.

The statistical data revealed a visible trade deficit of HK96.9billionduringJanuaryApril2025,equivalentto5.7434.5 billion, marking a 14.7% year-on-year increase. The import value for the same month stood at HK$450.5 billion, up 15.8% compared to April 2024.

A spokesperson for the HKSAR government stated that as recent international trade frictions have eased somewhat, the adverse factors and uncertainty in the external environment have decreased marginally. The steady growth of the mainland economy, coupled with Hong Kong's proactive efforts to strengthen economic and trade links with diverse markets, has helped support Hong Kong’s trade performance.
